DIESEL MECHANIC ENGINEER
ROLE

Diesel mechanics diagnose and repair Diesel vehicles and machinery, mechanical and electrical faults. Diesel mechanics diagnose engine trouble, if necessary dismantle the engine, and replace or repair defective parts.


Today Diesel mechanics occupy a very significant role in the manufacturing field. From the small diesel engines used for portable generators to gigantic diesel power plants driving ocean-going freighters, diesel engines are a central part of the transportation and industrial infrastructure globally.


With ever-increasing demand for diesel-powered vehicles in today's trade industry, companies across South Africa are seeking the help of certified diesel mechanics to diagnose, repair, and maintain diesel engines.


From semi-trucks to shipping ships, diesel mechanics need to have a collection of skills required to perform their duties effectively. Many skills are inherent to each diesel engineer, while others are taught or trained through a diesel technology or on-the-job training program

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

1. South African ID or Passport

2. N2, Grade 9 or Grade12

3. NQF Level 7 in Diesel Mechanic will be advantageous

4. At least 5 years experience
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

- Diagnose and repair faults on diesel-powered yellow plant equipment (excavators, loaders, graders, TLBs, dumptrucks, etc.) and forklifts.

- Perform scheduled servicing and implement predictive maintenance procedures using operational data and OEM intervals.

- Inspect and repair hydraulic systems, transmissions, cooling systems, and drive trains.

- Maintain and service materials handling equipment, including forklifts, and assist with crane inspections or minor repairs.

Complete and maintain accurate job cards, service logs, and parts usage reports.

- Conduct pre- and post-repair inspections and record detailed findings.

- Respond to on-site breakdowns and ensure quick, quality repairs to minimize downtime.

- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations.

- Maintain tools and diagnostic equipment and report maintenance or replacements needed
